London

Samuel Johnson is quoted by Boswell as having said: "Why, Sir, you find no man, at all intellectual, who is willing to leave London. No, Sir, when a man is tired of London, he is tired of life; for there is in London all that life can afford."

I would have to agree and I only scratched the surface, and a weak scratch it was, of what London has to offer. Its streets are alive with entertainments both base and high--sometimes both at the same time. I never experienced a dull moment wandering up and down its streets always only a few minutes walk from an inviting pub or a 30 minute tube ride from a world-class museum full of treasures (albeit mostly stolen). No, a man bored in London is a man incapable of pleasure.

Any great city offers visitors a world to wander through; a chance to pass down a thousand welcoming lanes where one has no memories but the fresh opportunity to form new ones.

I have been to Paris, Berlin, Prague, etc. and each has it's charms, but London offers something more than grand squares, and churches on hills. London has something that is at street level, that seems to seep out of the walls.

It was in London that I fell in love with a piece of marble.
